03Learning Through Conversation
In this recording, university faculty talk about why they invite Dr. Thenera Bailey into their classrooms as a guest lecturer, alongside footage of her speaking with students.
I think the biggest benefit of bringing in a social worker like Dr. Bailey is that she has a non-conventional career. And so for so many of our students, they're getting sort of this, our work is in a box. And I really feel like Dr. Bailey's experience has been, you create it, you build it, you invite the people in so that you can accomplish what you want. Anytime we bring in a guest lecturer, our students benefit from hearing all different perspectives. At this point in their educational career, they've heard all of our perspectives on faculty. And we want to bring in as many different perspectives as we possibly can. And we are all very impressed with the perspective that Dr. Bailey brings. A lot of our students are interested in like micro-practitioner things. This is what I think Dr. Bailey gives us: an option to show folks that there are other things that social workers can do. And how much of an impact we can have to a group of folks and not just [inaudible] caseload. We invited Dr. Bailey because it's important to see those who do sort of global impact work. Like so many practitioners are coming in and they want to do direct practice. But direct practice, it doesn't shift policy, it doesn't shift environments, it only provides immediate services. And so much of what we need to see in order to create change in our world is people who are thinking from a large scale. We're always looking for ways to bring that profession into light for our students. And see how they can actually take policy advocacy and put it in action. And so seeing somebody like Dr. Bailey who's doing the work gives our students an opportunity to see how they might apply it to their professional careers. We invite Dr. Bailey to speak with our class because we talk about policy in a lot of the semesters with them. They get one in the beginning of the time here and then one on the way out. And I think she gives us the ability to connect some of the pieces for them to see how important policy change and macro social work is for our clients. And how important our careers are not just for the communities that we serve but our global impact as well. I do it just to break the myth that you can do anything with the degree.

Some conversations open new possibilities.
The SISGI Group develops customized speaking engagements and curated conversations that invite people to explore complex questions, challenge assumptions, exchange perspectives, and connect ideas with meaningful action.
As strategy, consulting, and learning and development professionals, we bring more than a presentation to the room. We work with organizations to shape the topic, format, and experience around their audience, priorities, and desired outcomes.

Thought-provoking presentations that connect strategy, leadership, innovation, and organizational realities with opportunities for reflection and meaningful action.
Facilitated discussions that help leadership teams examine challenges, explore strategic questions, and consider what comes next.
Curated conversations that bring together different experiences and expertise to explore complex issues, challenge assumptions, and identify new possibilities.
Engaging sessions that combine practical ideas, meaningful dialogue, and participant reflection to support learning and application.
From navigating organizational change and innovation to leading authentically, strengthening collaboration, or exploring AI with intention, our conversations can address a wide range of topics.
